This week we are shipping our U.S. cloud south of the border to Las Vegas, Nevada in order to pave the way for our growing customer base in the United States.

We are in the midst of expanding southward, specifically into health care organizations servicing Long-Term and Post-Acute Care. Currently, we have introduced EntryPoint to skilled nursing facilities that are keen to realize the benefits of the software in improving workflow efficiency and merging evidence-based best practice with technology clinicians love.  Brynne Eaton-Auva’a is a team leader in this business expansion and she sees big opportunities looking into the future.

“I’m thrilled about all the positive feedback our U.S. nursing facilities have given us since they adopted our software,” Eaton-Auva’a said. “By setting up our U.S. cloud we will facilitate more partnerships and help more care providers see similar results.”

What is the Cloud?

The cloud is a popular term used to describe application-based software that can be accessed anywhere, anytime via the Internet. This is why EntryPoint, where we host our suite of healthcare applications, is called a cloud-based platform. Although all cloud information is available remotely, the software is grounded by a unit of physical hardware, or servers, which stores the data. This unit must be located in a secure location that meets the standards set by the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA.

Our U.S. cloud will be housed in a secure data center.  The HIPAA compliant location will be monitored remotely by an in-house technical operations team. Doug Coleman is the lead on our IT team and one of the individuals overseeing the security measures put in place to ensure the servers are monitored 24 hours, seven days a week.

“To enter the server room at our new location you have to pass an iris and a finger scan,” Coleman explained. “This protects our customers’ data and ensures that only the right people have access to it.”

These security measures are so strict that Coleman and some other members of the technical team will have to fly to Las Vegas and get their eyes and fingers scanned so they can also have physical access.

Despite its whimsical nickname, the physical cloud is a rack that holds our SAN servers, standing just under seven feet tall and weighing in at a whopping 2,000 pounds. As a unit, these servers have 100 terabytes of ambiguous space, which translates into one million writable order sets. This is where all U.S. client information will be stored.

But we don’t plan to limit ourselves to the current capacity.

“As our client needs continue to grow, so can our cloud,” Coleman explained. “Our spacious Las Vegas location provides us with enough room to add more servers so we can store more order sets down the road.”

We are excited about our new cloud in the U.S. and the growth it will facilitate moving forward. This investment in IT infrastructure represents a huge step forward for Think Research and our dedication to our business expansion into the United States.  We can be confident that the security and privacy of our customers is respected because what happens in Vegas will really stay in Vegas (or more specifically, the United States).
