(Toronto, ON/Dublin, IE) March 24, 2020 – Sensational Kids, an Ireland-based social enterprise, providing vital front-line therapeutic supports for children with additional needs, today announced its partnership with Think Research, a Canadian developer of virtual care technology, to jointly respond to the COVID-19 outbreak.  Think Research’s EU Headquarters is based in Dublin, where it has a growing number of Irish clients using its clinical solutions.

Through the partnership, Think Research will deliver its award-winning VirtualCare platform to Sensational Kids clients across Ireland. This will provide virtual access to speech & language therapy, play therapy, occupational therapy and other key services to ensure that children and their families continue to get the support they need at this difficult time, while also helping to slow the spread of COVID-19. Regular therapy is important to be effective and it is especially crucial for children to maintain relationships and support at this time.

“Sensational Kids is often a vital lifeline for many vulnerable children who need regular therapy input to maintain their regulation and meet their sensory needs,” says Chief Executive Officer, Karen Leigh. “We also provide specialist therapeutic supports to children and adolescents who may be self-harming, suicidal, are dealing with trauma or who suffer from anxiety. Some children need us now more than ever.”

In the long term, shifting to a virtual visit model can help to facilitate on-demand access for children who don’t live near a care centre and for therapists managing a large caseload. It also allows for care to be more easily accessed at home, which may be a more comfortable environment for those receiving these services.

“During the pandemic, virtual visits have emerged as a logical choice to provide care while also keeping people safe,” says Sachin Aggarwal, CEO of Think Research. “They ensure that children are still able to see their own care providers, who know them and understand their specific needs, while also helping us to practice social distancing and flatten the curve by reducing in-person visits.”
