Partnership will give thousands of mental healthcare providers access to Think Research’s virtual care platform as they respond to COVID-19

(Toronto, ON) April 21, 2020 The Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP), a professional organization representing the spectrum of mental healthcare providers in Ontario, today announced a partnership with Think Research, a developer of virtual care technology and clinical treatment protocols, to jointly respond to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Through the partnership, Think Research will make its VirtualCare platform available to OAMHP members across Ontario. Adopting this technology will enable OAMHP members to rapidly offer virtual mental health consultations to their clients while minimizing mutual exposure to COVID-19.

“Now, weeks into mandated physical distancing, COVID-19 remains a serious threat to our community. Extended ‘stay home, stay safe’ orders are necessary yet also create a sense of isolation, stress and underlying anxiety for many,” says Suzanne Dennison, a registered psychotherapist and president of the OAMHP. “In these unprecedented times, the need for access to mental health supports is greater than ever.  Virtual care allows for these services to continue while keeping both mental health professionals and those they care for safe and most in the mental health field are now transitioning their practices to virtual services.”

The OAMHP represents more than 3,000 members who embody the spectrum of mental healthcare providers at work in family health teams, hospitals, school boards, workplaces, community centres and private clinics — just about everywhere you find mental health services in your community. Shifting to a virtual visit model will make it easier for people to access these psychotherapists, psychologists, psychometrists, counsellors and consultants to receive the mental health care they need, and reduce the need for in-person visits.

“During this pandemic, virtual visits have emerged as an option that’s allowing people to continue accessing the care they need, when they need it, while also keeping safe and reducing the risk of spreading the virus,” says Sachin Aggarwal, CEO of Think Research. “We’re pleased to partner with the OAMHP to ensure that people can still get appropriate support for their mental health care needs, from their own care providers, particularly during this difficult time.”
