VirtualCare platform will now be available to long-term care and retirement homes across Canada, giving more access to virtual visits with physicians

(Toronto, ON) April 6, 2020 Think Research, a developer of virtual care technology and clinical treatment protocols, today announced an expansion of their integration and partnership with PointClickCare.

As part of their ongoing collaboration, Think Research’s award-winning VirtualCare platform will be included as an integrated offering on the PointClickCare Marketplace, enabling residents in long term care and retirement homes to have virtual visits with their physicians and other care providers. This collaboration will help residents to receive the care they need without having to leave the residence, helping to increase health system capacity and slow the spread of COVID-19.

Seniors and people with underlying health concerns — such as diabetes, heart disease, or lung disease — are at higher risk of developing serious COVID-19 illness. Long-term care and retirement homes are particularly vulnerable to outbreaks due to the communal nature of their living environment. COVID-19 transmission is also a significant concern for residents who live communally because of their proximity to each other and the infection’s ability to spread through person-to-person contact.

“During the pandemic, virtual visits have emerged as a logical choice to protect residents, staff, healthcare workers and support staff,” says Sachin Aggarwal, CEO of Think Research. “They ensure that people still get appropriate answers to their health concerns from their doctors while helping us to practice social distancing and flatten the curve by reducing in-person visits. We’re pleased to see Ontario taking proactive action to accelerate the use of virtual medicine by releasing new billing codes.”

VirtualCare is a secure platform that allows healthcare providers to host virtual visits with patients over secure video, audio or chat. Through the partnership, several features, including resident information and charting of the virtual visit will be further integrated with PointClickCare’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform.
